In a recent survey Robert Half, 60 percent reports that biggest challenge they face is hiring skilled workers. And second is maintaining morale and productivity.
As small businesses don’t provide much perks like big brands, it’s really tough to hire skilled workers and then motivate them to work hard to increase productivity. Your employees couldn’t help and they compare themselves with big brand employees when they work and they expect same what big brands are offering. This raises the problem.
If manager or owner of the small business is not well skilled to manage then he/she may loss these well skilled and hard working employees. Which is a great loss to the company.
One more thing which I’d like to share with you is, small businesses are more important for the country’s progress than big companies. Am I wrong?
Small businesses have historically contributed disproportionately to employment growth. Research suggests that most of this modest advantage takes place during periods of relatively high unemployment.
But when small businesses fail to fulfill what employees need then they will have great loss.

Share your working culture over social networking sites, blogs, and on your business site. This shows employees that you’re giving them space to explore. Because it’s not the same old traditional culture employees are looking now, they expect and want freedom (you can set barriers according to your company rules).
Motivate your employees to share their experience with your company, over their social networking sites, with friends. Best way to make them do this, by offering them a promotional gift which they’d love to take.

This is very important. When hiring you must select most skilled person in both business point and profession point and who is good at communicating. This throws good reputation over job seekers.
Else you can recruit a third part agency for hiring work. But make sure they’re well versed has basic idea about your business.
Like big brands don’t advertise on major job portals like Monster about vacancy. Select local and your niche related sites to advertise job offer. This will be more effective. You can use LinkedIn for this work, or Twitter, Facebook.
If you want to attract more skilled persons for your company then you must do something more, you need to be enough popular in your area that they opt your company. This can be done when you do sponsor events, help NGOs and take some extra step to get attraction.
